Municipal Economic Development Management

Municipal Economic Development Management / ed. by G.Yu. Vetrov. - M.: Institut for Urban Economics, 2009. - 258 p.

This study guide purposes to create a holistic perception of theoretical approaches to managing municipal economic development and to practical activities of municipalities aimed at enhancing their economic potential. Economic development is viewed as one of the most complicated components of the system of municipal management, which requires comprehensive and concerted activities of various local self-governance bodies, establishment of constructive relationships between different subjects of local community, as well as reconciliation of local interests with national and sub-national ones. Special attention is paid to the planning, investment policies, mechanisms of public engagement and other vital issues of economic development of Russian municipalities in the context of local self-governance reform.

The study guide is illustrated with numerous practical examples, including the materials of the projects executed by IUE experts in various municipalities of the Russian Federation during 1999-2007.  It targets students and post-graduates who specialize in municipal governance, the staff of local governments, as well as wide readership – all those who take a keen interest in the municipal agenda.
