The panel discussion “Uniting Opportunities: Integrating Infrastructure at Local and Regional Levels” took place on July 6 as part of the MOSCOW URBAN FORUM 2017. The event was moderated by Alexander Puzanov, IUE Director General.

The integration of territories within an emerging agglomeration is associated with huge challenges in terms of ensuring territorial connectivity and arranging a largely new unified infrastructure. Sustainable development of energy balance, integration of innovative infrastructure, provision of access to utility services and all necessary resources for the new and existing territories are top-priority objectives facing metropolitan areas. The following issues were discussed:

  • What innovations exist on the infrastructure solutions market and what technology companies lead in the area?
  • Which agglomerations and megapolises proved to be most successful in carrying out the infrastructure integration projects?
  • Which elements of infrastructure should be centralized, and which should be formed according to a network principle?

Presentations were made by the following panellists: Oksana Garmash, Acting Director, SUE “NII and PI of the General Plan of Moscow”; Rashid Seedat, Head of Planning for the Gauteng Provincial Government; Stephen Barret, Partner, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners; Hiroo Ichikawa, Professor, Executive Director, Mori Memorial Foundation; Anil Menon, Global President, Smart + Connected Communities Cisco.
